Winter Prayer Requests, 2009 - 2010

Thank you for your interest in praying for Spain!

Looking back

We were away during much of the autumn, catching up the rest of it! But Spain has continued to need your prayer.

Summer activities

Decision and the Pocket Testament League were amongst numerous other mission agencies, denominations and local churches with special activities and outreaches. See the reports on the answers page.

Autumn events

While we reported at a number of Time for Europe events in the UK, life continued around Spain. While many outreaches are limited to the summer months, Kilómetro Cero continues daily in Madrid's Puerta del Sol. This year there was a special preachathon, with day-long activity in a number of central Madrid locations.

Meanwhile, there were also several important conferences, such as the COMIBAM Clame '09 conference for Latin workers amongst Muslims and the GBU (IFES) Forum. Both these conferences gathered several hundred from across Spain and elsewhere for mutual encouragement, Bible teaching and strategic planning.

Upcoming events

For the 5th time, on Christmas Eve there will be a televised evangelical Christmas service. Public service channel TVE2, which also broadcasts the weekly BuenasNoticiasTV on Sunday mornings, will broadcast the service at 18.30 It can also be seen 'a la carte' on your computer for a couple of days after the event.

There are also numerous concerts, many of them by evangelical Gospel choirs, during December.

We rejoice that for a second year it is planned to recruit churches to a 365-24 prayer initiative on behalf of Spain. During 2009 hundreds of churches have taken a day, or more, to maintain this round-the-clock prayer initiative.

Spain we're praying for you is in 2010 going to the regions. You may remember that over the past 2 years it brought people together in central Madrid to pray together for two hours. While it was possible to gather over a thousand from all over Spain at each of the events, in 2010 it is planned to hold concurrent activities in regional capitals. At the time of writing Evangelical Councils and other committees in 10 regions (of the 17) have signed up to host the meetings. It will take place on March 6th from 7 to 9 p.m.

The web

For those of you who are regular visitors to PrayforSpain, we appreciate any feedback on the usefulness of the very varies information which is included on the web, together with comments of any improvements which you would like to see.

During the coming months there will be major changes in this web. As we move over to a new CMS (data entry system), called xcruciate, we hope your experience will be enhanced. This will enable new developments in the future, such as:

Blogs We hope that over the coming months we will also be able to involve a few more English-speaking people from around Spain who would like to contribute a blog to the site. If you are somewhere around Spain and fancy joining, do let us know.

Coincidentally, a similar change of appearance is also taking place at Protestante Digital, due for renewal in February. PD will change from being a weekly, each section coming out on particular days, to being a daily paper. It is also getting more staff.
