Seven Spanish Spies Shot in Iraq

1 December. On Saturday afternoon, 29th November, seven Spanish intelligence officers died in an ambush south of Bagdad. When they stopped to repel shooting from a car which was chasing them they were surprised to find they were surrounded by snipers and granade throwers. One man managed to get away and called for help which arrived too late, but the seven resisted for up to half an hour.

The truth is coming out that the seven intelligence officers in Iraq were some of Spain's top spies. Four men were about to be relieved of their positions by the other four. Alberto Martínez had been in Iraq for three years and could pass of as an Iraqui. The team had been responsible for many aspects of the advice given to the Spanish embassy and armed forces currently in the country.

Update 10 December. 41 people have today been arrested in Latifiya, Iraq, charged with membership of the Abú Abdulá terrorist group and involved in the murder of the seven Spaniards. At least nine were directly involved in organizing and perpetrating the attack. Also today, five were arrested accused of the murder of José Antonio Bernal, another intelligence agent, in September.
