(Church and Sport news: click on more) ETA attempt to bomb Madrid confounded by police action - three bombs (2 in situ)discovered and defused, one bomb exploded with no dead or wounded, two arrested also had list of potential targets which might have been the objectives of other bombs/ attacks; king Juan Carlos, in his Christmas broadcast, encouraged all Spaniards to work, under the Constitution, towards a 'great, common, plural and divers house', considering the needy and sharing with them the benefits of the economic growth we are seeing, considering those committed to defend the interests of Spain and also taking the environment into acount - a complete message with the 25 year old Constitution at its centre ; as Christmas arrives the national parties, PSOE and PP are as much at loggerheads as ever, accusing each other of being precursors to the division of Spain ; tension between government and regions: even conservative Galicia has complaint against central government over education responsibilities; 74 die on roads over Christmas period.. so far.

Sport:

Football (soccer): World under 20 cup: Spain lost to Brazil in final; Madrid's Zidane voted world player of the year; Europe: all eight Spanish teams through to next rounds of Champions League and UEFA cup; Real Madrid leads Spanish league.
Basketball: Tau Ceramica after winning first 14 games in ACB league, finally beaten by Barcelona, could not equal 15 game record of Real Madrid.
Paris-Dakar, motorcycling: Gema García, a post delivery girl from Catalonia will be Spain's first female entrant in this rally classic, sponsored by the Spanish postal service Correos, with the claim 'Correos always arrives!'
Cycling: the course of the 2004 Vuelta Ciclista de España is now available. It will avoid the Cantabrian and Pyrenean mountains which boast some of the most spectacular climbs of the race, in order to reach parts of Spain further south rarely covered by the race. Radio Good News! Transworld Radio and Evangelism in Action have signed an agreement with 50 secular radio stations to transmit a series of programmes about the Bible over the next five years. More in separate article. Go christian_radio

Multimedia Campaign in Barcelona We have just heard of a campaign which has been held this month in Barcelona via bill boards, radio ads and programmes and Internet, specifically aimed at students. Pray for a good response and transformed lives! Ads remain on bus stops until Boxing Day.

Splash! ECM's new magazine for children is making a big splash in the media. Produced by Miguel Angel Saez for the mission which works in the province of Córdoba, this magazine aims to entertain and instruct children with stories which get values across. Onl part is specifically biblical, such that it will not be considered offensive to non-Christians. The regional TV station Canal Sur went to Madrid to interview Miguel.

Big Baptist church! In Zaragoza, the baptists have just inaugurated a new church building which seats 700. For Spain, this is a mega-temple indeed, as most churches have memberships well below 100 and could never afford this kind of building. But the Baptists, linked to the SBC, have grown in Zaragoza and have a vibrant ministry in the city. The building is situated on a 2,800 sq metre site (approx. 28,000 sq ft)

Change Tack: A youth conference, aiming to change mindsets and draw closer to God and get a glimpse of what He is doing in Spain and around the world, in the Peña de Horeb conference centre, Guadalajara, got over 80 teenagers together from 7 churches 21-23 November. (Source 24/7)

TEMA, European missions conference, this New year: 60 young Spaniards signed up and possibly 80 will attend. Next 'Conference for the Evangelisation of Spain' gets go ahead for next year, over December 4-8 bank holiday weekend; 'Llamada' (Call) youth missions congress goes ahead next Easter: both are major national events
Prayer Conference: The 15th National Intercession Meeting will take place in Barcelona in January, 15th to 17th. This will combine with the Mediterranean Intercession Forum.
